5 OF THE BEST PLACES TO GO MOUNTAIN BIKING IN THE UK

Here in the UK, we’re very lucky to have so many magical mountain biking trail centres right on our doorstep. You don’t have to travel far to find plenty of options, for beginners through to pros, within this adventure sport. At The Insurance Emporium, we took a look at some of the best places for mountain biking that this country has to offer.

Bicycle InsuranceForest of Dean, England

Mountain bikers of all abilities will enjoy riding in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. There’s a choice of cross country trails – with switchbacks, berms and more on the red and blue routes – as well as fast downhill tracks. You could also hone your skills on the pump track, drop line and jump line skills area. Meanwhile, kids and parents could enjoy a more leisurely ride on the Family Trail.

Castlewellan, Northern Ireland

This trail centre is located around the shores of Castlewellan Lake and is a popular destination for cross country biking. Its 19 kilometre red trail is known for stunning views and flowing singletrack. Plus, if you’re an experienced rider, you could detour onto the black options. There’s also a family friendly green route and a blue route, both of which loop around the lake.

Bicycle InsuranceBikePark Wales

The 28 trails across the 1,200 acre site at BikePark Wales offer a lot of options for mountain biking. There’s trails for all riding levels, with a variety of features that include rock gardens, berms, drops and jumps. You could use the park’s uplift service to take you to the top of the trails or, if you fancy a climbing challenge, you can ride a 4.6 kilometre route to the top!

Dalby Forest, England

This centre’s trails range from a family-friendly green route through to the black trail, famed for its appearance on the cross country World Cup circuit in 2010. In between, there’s also a blue trail with switchbacks, small drops and a decent of rollers and berms at the end. Plus, the 21.5 mile red route offers plenty of singletrack peppered with rock gardens, climbs, north shore and descents.

Bicycle InsuranceNevis Range, Scotland

Once a year, mountain biking enthusiasts’ heads turn to the Fort William Downhill World Cup located in Nevis Range. Experienced riders could boldly follow in the tyre tracks of riders like Aaron Gwin and the Athertons on this course. However, there’s also plenty for more cautious riders to enjoy, including the blue trails and the red route that was used for the 2007 cross country World Championships.
