It barely feels like yesterday that we were decking the halls and prepping dinner for last Christmas, but the festive season is upon us again! With so much to think about and prepare, deciding what presents to buy can become quite a daunting task. This might be especially true when trying to come up with ideas for someone with a specialist hobby such as fishing! But there’s no need to despair, here’s our round up of five gift ideas for the angler in your life!
1. Rapala Fisherman’s Multi-Tool
No fishing trip would be complete without taking along a multi-tool! Our favourite is from Rapala, and combines a comfortable grip with specialised tools to make cutting line and threading a whole lot easier. It’s lightweight, and features a carabiner clip, meaning you can simply attach the tool to your belt hook and forget it’s there. The built in bottle opener could also come in handy for those long days on the water!
2. Fishspy Echo Pro
There are many sonar products on the market that allow you to map out the area below the water’s surface. The Fishspy Echo Pro also comes equipped with a built in camera, so you can get to grips with what’s going on below via a live video streamed to your phone! Being small, floatable and easily attached to a bit of line, it can either be cast with a rod or attached to a boat.
3. Fishing experience days
Both beginners and accomplished anglers can get a lot from a fishing experience day. If you’re an old hand at fly casting for coarse fish, you could have a go at a day of sea fishing, or take a fly fishing trip to the Cairngorns National Park. For someone newer to angling adventures, a spot of instruction from a more experienced fisher will never go amiss!
4. Skee-Tex boots
Fishing is great all year round, but it can get a bit nippy out there during the winter months! Skee-Tex boots are quoted as being “the warmest fishing boot in the world”. And they should be, with a guarantee down to minus 50 degrees! Beware though; due to all the insulation they can be a bit snug, so it’s recommended that you buy a size up from normal.
5. Coddies Fish Flops
Perhaps the joker among the pile, but really, who wouldn’t laugh when presented with a pair of slippers/sandals in the shape of colourful bass? Marketed as “unusual shoes for people with imagination”, their creations aren’t just novelty, but have also been made with comfort and durability in mind. And if you’re not content with only bass shoes, how about cabbage flip flops or banana slip-ons?
