Our Favourite christmas Movie Adventures

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! What better time than Christmas to settle in with a hot drink and watch some feel good films. And there are plenty of fantastic Christmas films to help get you into the festive spirit! That’s why, at The Insurance Emporium, we’ve put together our list of our favourite magical Christmas movie adventures to watch over the holidays!

Our favourite Christmas movie adventures - Kermit the Frog

The Muppet Christmas Carol

There have been so many adaptations of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol over the years that we’ve lost count, but, in our opinion, The Muppet Christmas Carol has to be the greatest! Scrooge, played by Michael Caine, is the aging misanthrope surrounded by puppets in a film that never fails to delight. Gonzo even makes a fantastic, if somewhat blue, Charles Dickens.

Elf

Relive the Christmas adventure that forever after saw Will Ferrell typecast as an overgrown man-child. The film follows Buddy, a human who was raised by elves at the North Pole. Once he learns that he was born human, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York to find his biological family. In equal parts fun and charming, with a fair dose of risky humour! Kids and adults alike will love Elf.

Jingle All The Way

Is this Arnold Schwarzenegger’s greatest ever cinematic role? We’re going out on a limb and saying – absolutely! From the era in which Schwarzenegger seemed to be given more and more unlikely roles, here he plays goofy suburban dad Howard, who promised his son a Turbo Man toy for Christmas. He’ll go to any lengths to get his son the Christmas present he deserves!

Home Alone

Before he was all grown up and ate pizza on YouTube for a living, Macaulay Culkin stole our hearts as Kevin McCallister, the kid left home alone for Christmas. Eight-year-old Kevin fends off two would-be burglars from the family home with a series of elaborate death traps, laughing maniacally at his victims. No wonder he went through an awkward phase…

Our favourite Christmas movie adventures - It's a Wonderful Life

It’s a Wonderful Life

The best Christmas film ever? It’s certainly one that’s firmly stood the test of time since its 1946 release! George Bailey is brought back from the brink of suicide by his guardian angel, Clarence, just in time for Christmas. Heart-warming and perfectly festive, we’re sure this movie will carry on resonating with audiences for many more years to come!

Love Actually

Yes, Love Actually has issues, notably its representations of women, or the plotline that seems to give the okay to stalking your best friend’s wife. But it has undoubtedly become one of the most popular and best-loved Christmas films to be had! Worth watching if only for Emma Thompson’s heart-wrenching performance; gets us every time!

Die Hard

To all you naysayers out there, Die Hard is a Christmas film. It takes place during a Christmas party-gone-wrong, and thank goodness Bruce Willis is there to save the festive period for everyone in probably his finest role. Speaking of finest roles, Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber would probably be the highlight of any acting career!

The Santa Clause

Tim Allen accidentally kills Father Christmas, before turning into the main man himself. Not the kind of plot you’d expect for a popular Christmas film. But when divorcee Scott Calvin is forced to become Santa Claus after his predecessor takes a fatal tumble, it paves the way for bags of festive fun!

Gremlins

Our favourite Christmas movie adventures - The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you were born in the 80’s one of your cuddly toys will undoubtedly have been a Gizmo, and if not, what were you playing at? The havoc wreaked by the mischievous gremlins is quite spectacular, reminding us all that a pet shouldn’t be just for Christmas, Remember folks, Mogwais may be cute, just don’t feed them after midnight…

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Although we featured this on our favourite Halloween films, everybody knows The Nightmare Before Christmas is, in fact, a Christmas film! This cult classic is peak Tim Burton, with weirdly wonderful characters, sing-along songs and our favourite Santa stealing Christmas story!

With so many great Christmas movies around, settling on just ten was a difficult task! Whatever you watch this festive period, we wish you the most magical of Christmas adventures.
