Cleanin’ out my caravan

When you’re taking your caravan out on the road for those first holidays of the year, you may wish to check it over and give it a bit of a spruce up. You might want to sterilise and test your water system, check your tyres, give the ‘van a clean as well as a handful of other jobs. We wrote a blog at the start of the season that might help with getting your pride and joy back on the road.

In between holidays, there are a few things you can do to ensure your caravan is kept in good shape. Just before you go on holiday and after you come back, make sure you clean it throughout. It could be worth using cleaning products designed specifically for caravans, particularly on the outside. You might also want to check the van’s electrics regularly to ensure that everything is in good working order.

Home and away

Once your caravan is out of winter storage, you might need to think about where you’re going to store it between those holidays. It could be worth keeping it at a storage location, particularly one that is accredited by the Caravan Storage Site Owners’ Association, as this would give you an indication of the level of security – in fact, we offer up to 15% CaSSOA Discount on our policies where caravans are kept in gold-awarded sites!

Another option that is favoured by some owners is storing their caravan on their own property. This could be a cheap option and might ensure you can keep an eye on your pride and joy all the time. However, it will be exposed to the elements here, so you might want to consider investing in a cover for it. What’s more, you could consider taking extra measures to keep yours secure. An important fact to note because, as with other insurers, we have our own security requirements.
