Travelling abroad to enjoy your hobbies can be a particularly magical experience. At this time of year, it’s great to escape the cold and wet of Britain to go on an adventure elsewhere in the world. Whether you’re a fan of fishing, you’re great at golf, you have a keen eye for camera angles, you’re a speedy cyclist or you just like travelling, life is a playground and the world is full of adventures to be had. At The Insurance Emporium, we love to see the world and we want to encourage you to do the same. To encourage people to pursue their passions abroad while giving them the peace of mind that they are covered, we are launching our Outrun The Rain campaign offering one month free on new Cycle, Camera, Fishing and Golf insurance policies with the code SUN17*. Here’s some inspiration on where to go to enjoy these pastimes and escape the gloom and doom.
Cycle in Sardinia
With 300 days of sunshine each year, the Italian island of Sardinia is an excellent location to outrun the rain in. What’s more, it’s a fabulous destination to head to if you love cycling. You can pedal through olive groves, vineyards, wooded valleys, beautiful towns and stunning white beaches. When you aren’t on your bike, take some time to enjoy delicious local cuisine. One benefit of visiting Sardinia in winter is that you can enjoy milder temperatures compared to the intense heat of the Mediterranean island’s summers. So, with a more comfortable temperature to be active in, winter is an excellent time for cyclists to visit Sardinia.
Tee off in Andalusia
Spain’s Andalusia region boasts a huge range of golf courses and has 320 days of sun on average, which makes it a great location for golfers looking to escape Britain’s wet winters. The popular holiday destination of Costa Del Sol is home to more than half of the region’s golf courses, but areas like Cadiz, Almeria and Huelva also boast some excellent options in which to play the sport. When you aren’t teeing off, you can enjoy the region’s beautiful beaches and lush landscapes. Temperatures can be rather mild in the winter months but this means there will likely be fewer people on the courses and accommodation might be cheaper…everyone loves a bargain!
Take photos that aren’t Laos-y
While the UK is in the cold, wet grip of winter, southeast Asia will be sunny and warm. The city of Luang Prabang in Laos was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its preservation of architectural, religious and cultural heritage, so it has a great mixture of photo opportunities. Its history is evident in its combination of 19th and 20th century French colonial architecture and there are also a number of beautiful temples that give you a great snapshot of the country’s religious culture. Mount Phousi is well worth climbing, so that you can visit the temple of Wat Chom Si and get excellent views over the city below. Within the Luang Prabang region is the three-tiered Kuang Si waterfalls, which is a popular location for tourists to see and swim in. It is also worth photographing some of the lush mountain views that can be seen around the Luang Prabang area.
Angle in Argentina
One way to escape the winter of the UK is to seek out the summer in the southern hemisphere. Argentine Patagonia is known for its mountains and landscapes, which offer some of the most breath-taking views on the planet. While it is a remote part of the earth, it has become increasingly popular with backpackers and various people looking for adventure holidays. It is also an excellent location for fishing. People gather in the region during the fishing season, which runs from November to May, to go dry trout fishing in the rivers – Patagonia is considered to be one of the best areas on Earth for dry trout fishing.
Meander around Morocco
Even if you don’t have a particular passion to try out abroad – or perhaps travel is your passion – it can still be nice to get some winter sun. Morocco stays as warm as a British summer during what would be the UK’s winter months. Holidaymakers in the city of Agadir can relax on beaches with views of snow-capped mountains on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Marrakesh is also a popular city break, where visitors can get lost in the hustle and bustle of Djemma el-Fna, relax in Jardin Majorelle, look around the Medina and drink a lot of tea! Seriously, what Brit can say no to tea!?
Visiting new countries is an exciting adventure, whether you are aiming to indulge in your hobbies or you are just going to experience a new culture. When it’s winter in the UK, it’s a great time to seek out some sun abroad. As we want to help you protect your passions abroad, we are offering one month free on our Cycle**, Golf, Camera and Fishing insurance policies as part of our Outrun The Rain campaign with this code: SUN17. If you’re heading abroad and think that this might help, take a trip to The Insurance Emporium today!
