1. Real, Real – Nina Simone

There are other Nina Simone songs that might be more obvious first dance choices. Real, Real, however, is a great song on the simple realities of love. Plus, it’s pretty short, so perfect for quickly escaping the spotlight on your big day!

2. Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen

Queen can be a real people pleaser when it comes to dancing! This upbeat number could be an instant floor filler once you’ve shown everyone your own fantastic moves.

3. Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake

Talking of tracks to get everyone dancing, this recent Justin Timberlake hit could be just the ticket! Upbeat and catchy, it’s sure to help everyone get into the party spirit.

4. Songbird – Fleetwood Mac

Looking for something more romantic? Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird definitely ticks that box. The Eva Cassidy cover is probably better known, but the original, which is more stripped back, could be just the intimate tune you need!

5. I’m Lost Without You – Blink 182

Unusual first dance songs

For all those couples out there who grew up in the skate punk era, this song from Blink 182 could bring back all the right memories! A departure from their usual sound, this ballad showed us the band could deliver powerful emotion.

6. Signed, Sealed, Delivered – Stevie Wonder

If you want things a bit funkier, this Stevie Wonder Motown classic can’t fail to put a smile on everyone’s faces. Plus, we think this could be ideal if you want to create your own choreographed routine. Just an idea!

7. Friday I’m in Love – The Cure

Not an obvious choice for your first dance, but this alternative classic might be a great, catchy and upbeat song for your wedding. Especially appropriate if you’re getting hitched on a Friday.

8. Us – Regina Spektor

Want a song for your first dance with a dramatic arrangement and uplifting piano? Us, by Regina Spektor could be the song for you. Whilst the lyrics have proven difficult to interpret, you could stamp them with your own meaning!

9. (Your Love Keeps Lifting me) Higher and Higher – Jackie Wilson

Another lively tune to get everyone in the party zone, this Jackie Wilson classic is a great floor filler. It’s also the favourite of the pink goo from Ghostbusters 2. And if that’s not a great recommendation, we don’t know what is!

10. The Book of Love – The Magnetic Fields

This one might be slightly out there, but The Magnetic Fields could have created this slightly dreary track with the more cynical amongst us in mind. However, despite its weary air, this is actually quite a sweet love song.

We found it really difficult to narrow it down to just these ten songs, but hopefully we’ve helped to give you and your partner one or two pointers!
